Bio
Andrew McCartney kicks off his first season as the head coach of Calhoun Men's Soccer, initiating the program in Spring 2025 ahead of its inaugural season. Since arriving, he has played a key role in laying the foundation for the Warhawks, leading prospect camps and tryouts while helping build the roster and culture from the ground up. He brings over 15 years of coaching experience at the high school, club, and collegiate levels.
Most recently, McCartney spent two seasons as an assistant coach at UT Southern, helping guide the men’s program to a conference tournament final site appearance in 2024 under head coach Bret Boylan.
In addition to his college coaching experience, McCartney returned to Athens High School in 2023, where he currently serves as an assistant coach alongside Chelsea Hurst. During his second stint with the program, Athens has made three-straight playoff appearances, including a Final Four run in 2024 and an Elite Eight finish in 2025.
McCartney previously spent time as an assistant coach at Elkmont High School, where he helped lead the program to its deepest postseason run in school history, a section championship, and an overall record of 15-2-2 during his one season on staff.
His coaching career began in 2010 at his alma mater, Athens High School, where he worked under longtime head coach Ron Oakley. Over a span of several years, McCartney helped guide the Golden Eagles to a combined 87-38-13 record, earning two section titles, three Elite Eight appearances, and a trip to the AHSAA Final Four.
McCartney has also played a key role in the development of local youth soccer, serving as a head coach and assistant with Cottontown United Soccer Club in Athens, Alabama. During his time there, the club expanded from two teams to ten and collected numerous medals across age groups and competitions.
McCartney is a native of Athens, Alabama, and remains active in the north Alabama soccer community.
