Cam Chafetz Named Head Baseball Coach
Calhoun Athletics announces Cam Chafetz, former University of West Alabama Hitting Coach and Offensive Recruiting Coordinator, has been named its new Head Baseball Coach.
Decatur, AL - Director of Athletics, AJ Daugherty has announced the hiring of Cam Chafetz as Calhoun's new Head Baseball Coach, effective immediately. Chafetz will begin leading the Warhawks program and launching recruiting efforts as he takes the reins ahead of the 2025-26 season. He is also set to work Calhoun's baseball prospect camps on July 14 and 15 as he begins building momentum with future student-athletes.
Chafetz brings a dynamic and results-driven approach to the Warhawks program. Most recently at the University of West Alabama, he played a pivotal role in the Tigers' 2025 Gulf South Conference (GSC) Championship, their first since 2015, as well as their first NCAA Regional appearance since 2017. That season, West Alabama led the conference in fielding percentage and recorded the program's best stats in nearly a decade for home runs, walks, and hit-by-pitch totals. Under his guidance, multiple players earned GSC All-Tournament honors, including the tournament MVP.
Prior to UWA, Chafetz spent three seasons at Lawson State Community College, where he helped the 2023 team set school records in wins, home runs, stolen bases, and various offensive categories. His first full-time season saw Lawson lead the conference in hits, RBIs, and on-base percentage, while producing several All-Region and All-Conference players. He also contributed to summer league success as an assistant coach with the New Market Rebels of the Valley League, helping lead the team to league-best offensive statistics.
Chafetz began his collegiate coaching career as a volunteer assistant at Lawson State, quickly earning respect for his offensive development skills, recruiting acumen, and organizational leadership.
A graduate of the University of Alabama's College of Communication & Information Sciences, Chafetz is motivated by his mission to better those around him.
"Coach Chafetz immediately impressed us with his energy, clear vision, and commitment to building a successful program at Calhoun," said AJ Daugherty, Calhoun's Director of Athletics. "His proven track record of success and strong recruiting connections across the state stood out throughout the process. We believe the future is incredibly bright under his leadership, and we're proud to welcome him as the next Head Baseball Coach at Calhoun Community College."
"Calhoun Community College is excited to welcome Cam Chafetz to lead our baseball program," said Dr. Jimmy Hodges, Calhoun President. "His commitment to excellence, growth, and student-athlete development makes him the right fit to lead Warhawk baseball into its next chapter."
Chafetz shared his enthusiasm: "My family and I are extremely grateful for the opportunity to lead Calhoun Baseball into its new era. This program is filled with tradition, and we look forward to building upon it. The vision set forth by Mr. Daugherty and Dr. Hodges is one of growth, and they've committed to taking the steps necessary to win. Warhawk fans can expect a program built on discipline, loyalty, and accountability. We will be offensive in all that we do. Shelby, Beckett, Fletcher, and I can't wait to engage with the community."
