Dante Dorsey enters his second season as head cross country coach at Calhoun, building on an impressive debut year in 2024 that saw both the men’s and women’s teams reach new program heights. Under his leadership, the women’s team placed 11th and the men’s team 18th at the NJCAA National Championships, both all-time best finishes for the Warhawks. Along the way, school records fell on both sides, with David Rich setting a new men’s 8K mark and Lillie McLemore breaking the women’s 5K record.
Dorsey came to Calhoun following an eight-year tenure (2016–2024) as head cross country and track & field coach at Madison Academy, where he turned the program into one of the most respected in the state. He led the boys team to back-to-back AHSAA 3A State Championships in 2023 and 2024, overseeing all aspects of the program including planning, athlete development, and staff coordination.
Before his time at Madison Academy, Dorsey coached Randolph School’s youth track program from 2013 to 2015, working with elementary and middle school athletes. He began his coaching journey while still competing as a student-athlete at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, where he ran cross country and track from 2009 to 2013. He was a member of multiple conference and regional championship teams, earned All-Region and All-Conference honors in cross country, and captured the 2013 conference title in the 3000m steeplechase which was a school record he once held.
In addition to his coaching career, Dorsey has worked since 2009 as a manager and specialty running shoe expert at First Place Athletics in Huntsville, gaining valuable experience in sports retail, customer service, and logistics that complement his leadership on the track.
A Huntsville native, Dorsey graduated from UAH with a bachelor’s degree in Independent Studies in December 2023. He remains deeply connected to the local community, with much of his family still residing in the area.
