Richard Morgan enters his 10th season as head coach of the Calhoun golf program, continuing a decade-long run that has seen the Warhawks emerge as a respected name in NJCAA golf.

Since taking over in 2016, Morgan has built a program rooted in consistency and player development. Fourteen of his student-athletes have gone on to compete at NCAA Division I programs, five have earned Ping All-American honors, and six have received NJCAA Academic All-American recognition. Four of his former players are currently competing on professional tours, including Decatur native Sam Murphy, who made his PGA Tour debut in Fall 2022.

Before arriving at Calhoun, Morgan spent seven years as a golf professional and certified club fitter at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Huntsville, sharpening his expertise in club repair and custom fitting from 2009 to 2016. Prior to that, he served as head golf professional at Kelly Plantation Golf Club in Destin, Florida from 2005 to 2008, and Shalimar Pointe Country Club from 2000 to 2005. He was named Golf Professional of the Year by Meadowbrook Golf Corporation in 2002 for his leadership and service.

Morgan returned to the golf industry in 2000 after a brief break and previously held the role of Director of Golf at Cypress Lakes Golf & Country Club in Muscle Shoals from 1994 to 1997, where he became a Class A PGA member in 1995. Earlier in his career, he served as assistant professional at Valley Hill Country Club in Huntsville (1990–1994) and Decatur Country Club (1989–1990).

In addition to his coaching and club professional background, Morgan has worked extensively in junior golf development. He served as a consultant for the Arrowhead Junior Golf Tour and was the head coach of the U.S. Junior International Cup Team in 2003. A PGA Professional for nearly 30 years, Morgan brings a wealth of instructional knowledge and program-building experience to the Warhawk golf program.

Morgan holds a B.S. in Commerce and Business Administration from the University of Alabama and resides in Huntsville with his son, Jackson.
